I am so excited to be teaching Children's Literature (LAE 4416) this summer.  Johnson's text, The Joy of Children's Literature is an excellent resource for teachers of all ages!  It offers a plethora of literature suggestions as well as teaching connections:  how to use literature in the classroom.

While all teachers currently feel the pressure of state mandated tests, it is most important to remember why we teach:  to make a difference in the life of a child!  To me, this difference can be made to any age!

Johnson (2012) stated in the preface that in order to serve students well, teachers must become insightful and observant readers as well as knowledgeable purveyors of children's literature.  I couldn't agree more!  We are the role models in the classroom; we need to be well read in what our students read.  Students look to us for guidance, leadership, and often times...what to read.  We need to know what to suggest based on our knowledge of literature and our students!
