Running 2 Read

To me, reading is certainly like a vacation!  
It can take you to many cool places and introduce you to many new faces.  

I have loved to read since I was a small child; that is thanks to parents that supported and encouraged me to read.

Although we recognize that there are many sponsors of literacy, it is often accepted that the family not only serves as the introduction to literacy, but also provides the framework.  Purcell-Gates (2000) acknowledged the importance of family with regards to motivation to read.  

Did you know?

Children from families that read to them in early childhood as well as those coming from print-rich environments, often are more highly motivated to read; thus are more successful throughout schooling. 

Won't you read to a child today?  It's everyone's responsibility, our job together!
