The Ides of March 3/15
March 15 marks the anniversary of the assassination of Julius Caesar in 44 BC.
Caesar was stabbed to death during a meeting of the senate. It is said that as many as 60 conspirators were involved, but were led by Brutus and Cassius.
Supposedly, a seer (one who is able to "see" the future) had warned Caesar that danger was upon him and would be felt no later than March 15. Although Caesar felt that he had avoided this danger, he certainly had not. On the evening of the 15th, Caesar was stabbed multiple times. This story is popularly dramatized in William Shakespeare's play Julius Caesar and from it, derived the popular saying: Beware the Ides of March!
