Why I Write

Three terrific students from my READ 448 class share why they write.

October 20 is the National Day on Writing, which is sponsored by NCTE.  I responded to this via Twitter and also asked my students to respond to why they write.

I believe in writing and the importance of sharing your voice through the written word.

Why do you write?

After everyone responded, we created a "quilt" which displayed our
responses.  Quilts are a great way to demonstrate students' work, and visually share thoughts through words and illustrations.

We, as teachers, need to model our own writing and share a love of writing.  Be authentic, provide authentic opportunities, but most of all....WRITE!
