Tuesday, February 18, 2014 marked the 125th Anniversary of Mark Twain's Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Although it is considered one of the Great American Novels, it has often been in the spotlight, and was actually banned!
In fact, in March 1885, the Library Committee in Concord, MA, decided to ban the book due to its poor grammar and rough language. Although the library's ban made headlines, Mark Twain was thrilled. He decided that all of the controversy was free advertising, after all!
The book is still controversial today, although it has sold more than 20 million copies worldwide.
