Importance of Early Literacy Experiences

Early literacy experiences play a significant role in students’ level of motivation to read.

Students from families where reading is valued, engaged, and practiced demonstrate higher levels of reading motivation than students from families of limited value and practice.

Teachers may not be able to control what prior experiences students have had, but they can control the experiences that a student has in his or her classroom.

Exposure to literature, time for reading practice, and positive interactions will certainly impact a students' literacy.

Won't you help create a lifelong reader today?
