Literacy at Its Best

This is a great example of the importance of literacy!  Where this is a will, a desire...there is determination.  It's never too late to learn!  I love all that this video shares:  determination, dedication, and perseverance.

In addition, I love the process: from practicing early phonemic awareness skills (identifying and manipulating sounds orally), to phonics games (Scrabble), to picture books (practicing putting skills together), to flashcards (for vocabulary acquisition), and on to the goal:  reading his son's book (comprehension). Of course, the best moment:  being able to tell his son that he read his book!

Reading should be celebrated at all ages...should be encouraged by all (teachers, family, friends)...but most of all...it should be a habit.  This won't happen on its own...it will take ALL stakeholders (not worksheets, not assessments, and not computer programs) to make it happen.  Are you ready?  What will you contribute to literacy in 2017 and to whom will you contribute?
